Tickets for one of the biggest island events of the season, Taste of Boca Grande, are on sale now at the Boca Bay Pass Club, the Boca Grande Club, the Boca Beacon office and through Thor Johnson and Brian Corcoran. Thor Johnson, one of the Taste committee members, said because the event has sold out for many of the years it has been held, the earlier residents pick up their tickets the better.
This year’s ‘Taste’ will be held on Monday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Boca Bay Pass Club. Tickets are $75 each and all proceeds benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida.
Committee members include Terry Bisset, Thor Johnson, Nick Kaiser, Brian Corcoran and Kathy Hawken.
Newly-confirmed restaurants for the 2010 ‘Taste’ event include 3rd Street Cafe, Trattoria 13 and BnT Liquors.
“BnT has been with us since the beginning,” Johnson said. “They have always been great to us, we’re happy to have them again this year.”
As far as the rest of the line-up goes, Johnson said that letters of invitation have been sent out to many area restaurants, but it is still to early to determine exactly which ones will participate. Last year’s event featured the Boca Bay Pass Club, Boca Grande Baking Company, Boca Grande Club, Coral Creek Club, Eagle Grill and Miller’s Dockside, Farlow’s on the Water, Gasparilla Inn and Club, The Grapevine, Loose Caboose, Noy and Patrick’s Thai Cuisine, Palmetto Grill, Pink Elephant, PJ’s Seagrille, Prime Time Steak and Spirits, South Beach Bar and Grill and Temptation Restaurant.
More than $37,000 was raised at last year’s event.
Johnson said that the fall/Christmas barrel food drive will begin on Sunday, Nov. 15. Barrels will be found at the Crowninshield Community House, the First Baptist Church and Hudson’s Grocery. Johnson said the need to fill them is now more important than ever.
“The food bank has a tremendous need right now, and even more with the holidays coming up,” he said.”They have called us and told us that they are swamped. Last year we collected just short of a ton of food, and would like to do as well, or better, this year.”
