Boca Grande 5K run and fun walk

The streets of Boca Grande were crowded with runners on Sunday, Feb. 28 as the 9th Annual Boca Grande 5k Run & Fun Walk was held, and the Hammond family took some high honors home.

Corinna Hammond took second in the division for women 70 to 74 with a time of 39:45, and her husband, Davis, took seventh place in the category for for men 70 to 72 with a time of 42:51.

More than 180 runners were in attendance, with Bethany Heslam taking top overall female with a time of 20:09. The overall male winner was James Kieck with a time of 17:48.

Staci McMillan was the overall female master with a time of 20:16, and Mark Stueve was the overall male master coming in at 18:52.

Other winners included Nancy Lake as the overall female grandmaster with a time of 24:50, David Strehlow as the overall male grandmaster with a time of 19:47, Christine Hetherington as female senior grandmaster with a time of 25:32 and overall male senior grandmaster with 25:32. Larry McMasters was the overall male senior grandmaster with a time of 22:00.

Caroline MacKenzie was the winner in the category for females under the age of nine with a time of 26:36. Christian Saylor took first in the category for males nine and under with a time of 30:23.

Local girl Tallulah “T-Bell” Newlin took a third place rank in the category for females 10-14 with a time of 55:47. Alex Horan took a first place ranking for males ages 10 to 14 with a time of 26:58, and his brother, Luke, took second with a time of 31:11.
