All, I think we are all loosing site that those tarpon where in that pass for a purpose. God gave us the means to catch them with live bait, and jigs, to help us earn a living for survival. Think about all the businesses that prosper from both types of fishing, our economy has its best months during this season, and the PTTS brings business that we never had in the past. In economical times like these, can we really afford to have jig fishing stopped? If that is stopped, it will be a matter of time before we loose the live bait fishing for tarpon as well. Can we really afford to loose the whole fishing in Boca Grande Pass? Tourist will stop coming down here and we will begin to hurt our childrens future in the fishing guide business. Not all of our children are college bound, and loosing this resource to fish, will really hurt their future too. The foolishness and fighting is only going to hurt all of our businesses, and futures. Someone wake up, and stop this push to ban jig fishing before it is all gone.

I must say, you all are missing a very valuable point. If you eliminate jig fishing, we will loose revenue generated from the PTTS, and recreational fishing in our area. Businesses will struggle as tourist will stop coming down here to fish both live bait and jig fish. Maybe for some of the rich, it does not matter, but think about our youth beginning to carry on with the family charter businesses down here and can not because of the elimination of jig fishing. Think about our businesses in this area that thrive for these months. If jig fishing gets banned, it will be a short time before live bait fishing for tarpon loose out as well. Then all we have is bankrupt businesses, and no means to ever gain that back. We have enough economical issues in this country to deal with than creating more unemployment!

Guys....I myself hate the PTTS but lets be honest here for a second........It is physically impossible to snag a tarpon with a CIRCLE HOOK. They are the only hook allowed in there events. CIRCLE HOOKS DONT SNAG FISH!!!!

Thanks for having the guts to step up as business and say what all of US think & feel.. Ihave NEVER thought the jig hooks should have been allowed SINCE in the 40's/50's those same hooks were against the law in gator hunting.. Only allowed to use when removing a killed gator from his cave.. WHY are they allowed to fish for a fish that will bite on regular bait...??????

Thank you Randy for stepping up to the plate and for bringing more attention to a serious problem facing our tarpon fishery. I'll only add In addition to the pressure that is needed to force the PTTS to change its ways, we also need any help available to turn the heat up on the FWC and demand that they rule on the obvious, the "breakaway" rigging of a jig is a snagging device as implemented in Boca Grande Pass. The FWC has ignored this issue for far too long. Everyone is certainly welcome to come and enjoy the great tarpon fishing the Pass provides, but we agree, all event promoters, anglers, and captains are expected to act responsibly. Thank you again.

When an angler and author of your status takes a stand on an issue people listen. I am confident many others will follow your example. It seems to me there is more on the line at a PTTS event than tarpon. Money is on the line at the expense of tarpon! Thank you.
