FWC break-away jig study refuted by originating scientist Friday, 17 May 2013 10:06   BY MARCY SHORTUSE - In the summer of 2004 Dr. Justin Grubich picked up the phone to take a call from a woman who said she was with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The woman, Kathy Guindon, talked with Justin for about 30 minutes foul-hooking tarpon, and he was asked to provide expert witness testimony on how tarpon feed. Read more... BY MARCY SHORTUSE - Tropical Storm Debby was our first wake-up call of 2012’s hurricane season, and it was a long, wet reckoning. While little damage was reported, flooding up to thresholds had many residents very nervous at high tide.

Hurricane hang tags need to be redone this year, and business picked up a bit this week at the Boca Grande Fire Department with more and more people remembering to get them.

People are counting down the hours and minutes until the 4th Annual Boca Grande Kid’s Reunion 4.0, which will be held on Saturday, June 30, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at PJ’s Seagrille.

On the group’s Facebook page, there is already a flux of activity, as Boca’s native sons and daughters try to find out who is coming, and who is not.

When the old south bridge of the Boca Grande Causeway came down earlier this week, workers were amazed at just how tenuous a situation had developed there. Cars and trucks had been driving over a disaster just waiting to happen.

The pilings that supported the bridge had definitely scoured. One of them was secured by less than four feet of sand.
