The Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority has determined that GLF will be retained to build the island’s new swing bridge, after their original bid was rejected.

A meeting was held on Tuesday, Jan. 15 and board members voted four to one to employ the construction company.

In November five bids were returned to GIBA on the project, ranging from $17 million (GLF) to $20 million (American Bridge). The board met after those bids were turned in and decided to reject all of them, due to the fact that the projected bids were based on a partial completion rate, not full completion.

During the January 15 meeting four board members accepted the GLF proposal, after the company recently protested the bid rejection. Board Chairman David Hayes was the one who rejected the acceptance.
