The Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce held their monthly meeting this week and determined that the date of the 2011 Christmas Walk will be Saturday, Nov. 26. They also announced they are looking for volunteers to help with the upcoming Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 5, and that there is still time to sign up for the annual Fall Golf Scramble.

The chamber board had discussed changing the Christmas Walk to the first weekend in December, but after further review and feedback from merchants, they decided to return the event to its original date, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Stores stay open later for the annual evening event and often have sales and refreshments. Santa Claus makes his first seasonal visit to the island, roving carollers sing their songs, and luminaria line the streets.

The chamber is also looking for volunteers for the Fall Festival. Everyone from arts and crafts vendors to beer servers to clean-up crews are needed on that day. Anyone interested in volunteering or setting up a booth at the festival can call the chamber office.

The board has also approved a new event, which will be held during the World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament and Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament. The Silver King Festival will be held the weekend after the World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament, which is May 17 and 18, and prior to the Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament, which will be held on Sunday, May 20.

Chamber Director Lew Hastings said more details would be forthcoming in the future.

The board also discussed more segments in the “Business to Business program. On Thursday, Oct. 13 Tom and Toni Nelson, of Nelson Photographers, came to the Boca Grande Community Center Woman’s Club Room to discuss how weddings held on the island affect local businesses.

On Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. Sally Shepard from Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity will speak when “Business to Business” is to be held in the offices of Michael Saunders & Company, 420 E. Railroad Ave. On Thursday, Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m. Judy Luccini from the Wildlife Center of Venice will lead a discussion in the Woman’s Club Room at the Community Center.

Anyone interested in getting more information about volunteering at the Fall Festival or other events, or in being a vendor, can call the chamber office at 964-0568.
