Last year the Boca Grande community collected 1,200 pounds of food in the short Christmas food drive, and this year gives the opportunity to join your Boca neighbors to make this Harry Chapin Food Bank Christmas Drive another success.
Barrels will appear Monday, Nov. 7. The crew is waiting to collect your food donations, which are trucked to the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Fort Myers. Again this year, First Baptist Church joins the Methodist Church to promote the drive.
Drop your donations in the food collection barrels located at the two Gilchrist Avenue churches and at the post office. Gill’s and Hudson’s will again provide $10 bags of basic foods, which you may buy and drop into a barrel located inside each store.
Types of food needed are non-perishables such as macaroni, canned goods, peanut butter, dried beans, spaghetti and similar foodstuffs not requiring special handling or temperature.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributes millions of pounds of food annually to nearly a quarter million people who live in poverty. In the counties surrounding Boca Grande, hunger is still an issue and is still as pressing as it ever has been.
