The ospreys are beginning to start their nests in earnest, as babies will be coming soon. This week, Florida Power and Light made a special trip to Boca Grande and, with the help of a barge, checked out the tilting osprey nest platform on the causeway.
Delores Savas, the Beacon’s environmental columnist, has been delicately nudging FP&L along until, finally, they told her they would be coming out this week.
The repair man said the entire structure is in too bad a shape to repair. The platform will be removed and it will be replaced at a later date.
They also said they were using a contractor to do the work, at a cost of $38,000.
The platform has been tilted at a 45-degree angle since a storm last year set it askew.
