Bush, Parent take fishing tourney top titles

The Boca Grande Community Center hosted the first Youth Fishing Tournament of the New Year on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Boca Grande Fishing Pier.  

Overall “Fisher Boy” for the tournament was Wyatt Bush, with a 16.5 point fish. Fisher Girl was Anna Parent, whose fish garnered 16 points.

In the 7 - 9  age group winners were David Hayden for most fish caught, and Kylie Robbins for biggest fish caught.

In the 10 to 15 age group winners were Kyle Roddick for most fish caught, and Nathan Supplee for biggest fish.

The weather started out a little chilly, but fishing was steady and the children seemed to have a great time.

The kids hooked into a few mangrove snapper, grouper, flounder, grunts and a blow fish.   

Joe Wier, Supervisor for lee County Parks & Recreation, stated the tournaments would not be possible without the support of the Friends of Boca Grande Community Center, Charlotte County Parks & Recreation for the use of the pier and Boca Grande Marina for all of the live shrimp and support. He also wanted to thank Danielle Robbins and Karen Zarse for helping out at the tournament.
