Lee County Republican Party leaders contacted Boca Grande Chamber Director Lew Hastings Tuesday morning, Jan. 24, with a big request. They asked if he could come down to Fort Myers that afternoon and lead the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance just prior to Newt Gingrich’s speech in front of approximately 1,500 people.

Lew graciously accepted, then sat down to write his piece. Just a couple of hours later, he was enroute to Fort Myers.

“I think this was a great opportunity to get some visibility down in the heart of Lee County,” Hastings said. “Being so isolated by the distance, I think it is important for us to take part in high-profile events like this. This way we can get the cooperation and participation of the County for the events we have here when we need it. It’s all part of building the value of the chamber for our members and, as a result, building value for our community as well.”
