David J. Mather, author of “One for the Road,” will be at Ruhama’s Books in the Sand on Tuesday, March 13 at 1 p.m.
Mather grew up in Sarasota, before leaving Florida to attend Deerfield Academy. After he graduated from college, he served two years in the Peace Corps, stationed in southern Chile.
The isolation of his station changed him for life. When he returned to the United States, he went off-grid, living in a cabin in the woods of New Hampshire for four decades. He continued his travels, returning twice to Chile to research his first novel, “One for the Road.” “One for the Road” is loosely based on David’s own stint in Chile. His knowledge of the people and the land comes through with every description.
David and his wife still live in their isolated New England cabin during the summer, and come to Florida for the winter.
