Letter to the Editor: Relay for Life ... come out and help to fight cancer

To the Editor:

We are now just 15 short days away from our Boca Grande Relay for life. The event will start at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 24. Everyone needs to come out a see what a wondrous event this really is.

Eleven teams from your Island will be set up in a carnival-type atmosphere, selling food and drink trying to make this the best Relay ever. Italiano Insurance will have the grill fired up with Italian sausages with peppers and onions ready to delight you. So come on out and join us.

The relay kicks off with a Survivor lap at 3 p.m., followed by many activities and fun laps. There will be a dog lap, a three-legged lap, a drag queen lap and many more. There will be lots of activities including a pie-eating contest, a cake walk and “Boca Idol,” for everyone to see the best talent Boca has to offer.

The most emotional time is the luminaria lap, just after sunset. So come on out and join the fun and support a wonderful cause. You will be pleasantly surprise at how much fun it is. Please help us stamp out this disease that has taken so many of our loved ones away from us.

Personally, it has affected my life many times over. Last year someone very special to me lost her father to cancer, causing her and her family much distress and much sadness. It has left a void in their lives that will never be filled. It affected all of our lives dramatically.

So please come out and do your best to rid the world of this terrible monster that takes our family and friends.
