Obituary: Lawrence "Larry" Wechsler

 

Lawrence “Larry” Wechsler, a resident of New York City, Boca Grande and Millbrook, N.Y., died on Thursday, March 15, 2012.

He was born on June 10, 1925 in Brooklyn and was educated at Brooklyn College. Larry was a cosmetic industry leader, serving Revlon for 30 years. His marketing and leadership positions included President of the Borghese, Ultima and Fine Fragrance Group of brands, and president of Revlon Cosmetics and Fragrances, U.S. Larry served on the board of CTFA and other industry associations, as well as the New School and the New School of Jazz.

Following retirement from Revlon, he taught at Parsons School of Design for 10 years, and was a consultant to Christian Dior cosmetics and fragrances. At one point Larry served as the president of the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club, was a member of the Mashomack Preserve, the Tamarack Preserve, and of the Millbrook Hunt, with which he rode for 15 years.

In Boca Grande, Larry was a member of the Lemon Bay Golf Club, the Pass Club and the Boca Grande Club. He overcame afflictions from the neurological disease Charcot Marie Tooth and was able to ski, to golf, to ride horses and to study Tai Chi. He played the saxophone and loved traditional jazz. He loved his work, world travel, New York City culture, his horses, each beloved dog, his homes, his friends and his family.

Larry was a loving husband to his wife of 57 years, Jan Dean Wechsler; his son, Bradley J. Wechsler (Patty Newburger); three grandchildren, Samantha, Robert and David Wechsler; and a niece and a nephew, Betty (Chris) Connolly, and Steven Wechsler. Services will be held at Campbell Funeral Home in New York City on Monday, March 19.

Contributions in his honor may be made to the Boca Grande Health Clinic.
