Harm de Blij, a professor, author and television commentator, specializes in environmental issues and geopolitics, will be presenting a lecture on the topic of “America’s Changing Role in the Transitory World.”
Over the last few decades, the world has undergone seismic shifts. The Internet has made information accessible to anyone with a phone or computer, and advances in technology have made that access much easier. War is no longer a matter of the army of one nation attacking another, but of guerilla tactics, international organizations and drone attacks. Financially, the axis of influence seems to be shifting east, towards the population behemoths of India and China.Europe is fighting to maintain a common currency, and Russia is sinking back into an era of oligarchs.
Where does America, considered by some to be the last super power, fit into this new world? How is our role changing, both internally and internationally?
Join de Blij at the Community Center Auditorium on Tuesday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m.
Following the lecture will be a question and answer session with the professor. Tickets are $30, and seating is limited, so contact the Friends of Boca Grande Community Center to reserve yours today.
