A penny for your thoughts?

Ever heard of a penny social? On Saturday, March 31 from to 1 to 4 p.m. you will get your chance to partake.

Frolic will be the word of the day, and you are invited to do so on the grounds of the Boca Grande Community Center, courtesy of the Boca Grande Historical Society. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy live music, games and the company of family, friends and neighbors.

Prizes will be raffled off at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. Tickets include old fashioned refreshments. Buy 15 tickets to win prizes for $30 for BGHS members, $40 for the general public. Children under 12 will be free. Additional tickets will be available, you may buy as many tickets as you like.

A penny social is a benefit auction with a raffle twist to raise funds. Donated items are raffled off with the items being displayed on tables with a container placed near the items you wish to win. There will be home made and hand-crafted items, as well as extra-special items.

There will be a trivia game about the history of our island, so be sure to brush up on your knowledge by visiting the Historical Society’s museum on the corner of Park Avenue and Banyan Street, or visit their web site at bocagrandehistoricalsociety.com.
