Will you Relay this weekend to fight cancer?

Come on, let’s think in

A positive way.

Now should we?

How could we?

We will.

And still…

Oh yes, I’ve decided

Maybe I’m a fragment

That can be a part of

Something big

And I will

And I am.

aba89f2bca03476c5f1c306ef288c00b.jpgThe above poem was written by Lisa Golden, the niece of Boca Grande resident Sandy Ross Jacobs. She developed a brain tumor at the age of 6, and passed away at the age of 51.

Lisa lived a life filled wtih the need to push herself to great heights, even in the face of adversity and depression. After 10 years of taking courses in her community home called Ingis House, all by listening to lectures, participating in academic discussion and recording her notes on tape, she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree.

Boca Grande’s Relay for Life, which will be held this weekend, is a fundraiser to pave the way for researchers to cure the disease that stole Lisa’s life from her.

It is a way to give something of yourself to a cause that is vitally needed in today’s world.

As of press time, more than $48,000 had already been raised for Relay, with not quite as many teams participating.

Their goal is to raise $75,000.
