Island Art Days to feature Causey’s ceramic animals

Your eyes might be drawn to a certain booth during the annual Island Art Days celebration, coming up Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8 in downtown Boca Grande. That’s because bright colors and unexpected shapes are hallmarks of Scott Causey's artwork.

“I specialize in animals,” he said. “Many people make the assumption that my work is metal or glass because of the finish, but it is all ceramic. After I sculpt them, I break them apart and paint each piece separately. Then I put them back together like a puzzle.”

Causey is a graduate of Ringling School of Art and Design and has been working locally for over 20 years. He will be the featured artist at the Island Art Days, organized by local artists Julie Salvetti and Mel Landon, along with local businessman Bob Melvin.

The event was started as a way to introduce the community to artists who generally do not have an island presence.

The show, now in its seventh year, will showcase the work of numerous artists.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Special Effects parking lot. It is free to attend, and a portion of sales will benefit the Boca Grande Relay For Life.

There are 15 artists scheduled to display pieces at the show. They include: Ruth and Bob Wessel (clay art, ceramics); Carroll Swayze (etchings and acrylics); Rich Fizer (blown glass); Jason Paul Marien (jewelry); Ann Marie Solomon (watercolors); Sal Massouli (wood sculptures); Julie Salvetti (jewelry); Linda Welch (jewelry); Teri Causey (nautical paintings); Melissa Landon (island-style furnishings and accessories). Jim Sears (bronze and wood); Meredith Balasco (jewelry); Heather Kendall (Home accessories); Stuart Hoeckel (copper).
