Woman’s Club donates more than $380,000 to community groups, scholarships

The Boca Grande Woman’s Club, one of the island’s hardest-working non-profit organizations, has had a great season of receiving ... and giving ... donations. This year, more than $380,000 has been generously given to the Boca Grande Woman’s Club Scholarship Fund, and to numerous island organizations.

Among those donations are $10,000 marked for the Friends of Boca Grande Munchkin and After School Programs and $16,000 for youth summer camps.

“We have a responsibility to see that the youth of Boca Grande have the skills to compete in an increasingly difficult environment,” said Marjorie Webb, president of the Woman’s Club. “What they learn when they are young will serve them throughout their lives. We hope this will help to ensure their success.”

Other donations include $25,000 to the Boca Grande Child Care Center, $60,000 to the Boca Grande Health Clinic, $25,000 to the Gasparilla Island Conservation and Improvement Association, $50,000 to the Johann Fust Community Library, $10,000 to The Island School and another $10,000 (final pledge payment) to The Island School Foundation.

More than $20,000 was distributed to L.A. Ainger Middle School and Lemon Bay High School programs.
