"A Doggone Good Catch!" is the winning title for the “pirate girl” painting created by renowned artist Brendan Coudal for the Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce's 2012 Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament.
Virginia Witty of Punta Gorda submitted the witty winning entry, beating out more than 200 other submissions. Virginia (shown above with Chamber Director Lew Hastings) received print #1 from the 500 limited edition signed and numbered series, as well as a "treasure basket" from the Chamber of Commerce.
The collectible 2012 Ladies Day posters (as well as posters from past years) are on sale at the chamber office and on the website, bocagrandechamber.com. This year a portion of the poster sales’ proceeds will go to the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust. To see more of Brendan's artwork visit his website at brendancoudal.com.
Some of the runners up in the name the painting contest were Heidi Stevens' "She eyes the Prize," Bert Rowan's "The Dish With the Fish," Robin Melvin's "Treasure of the Pass," and "Off the Hook" by Judy Kinney. Funny honorable mentions go to "Gasprascilla" by Sue Leahy, and "Lola Pescadora," suggested by Kathleen Pease. Coudal said "Boca Booty" and "Catch of the Day" were both entered by several people and Paul Powers submitted the most entries with 18. Kathleen Pease was right behind with her brainstorming 16 suggestions.
