The Rev. C. Read Heydt is retiring from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church after serving nearly seven years as parish rector. He will be the preacher and celebrant on his final Sunday, July 29th, at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Heydt will turn 75 in August.

While summer attendance is greatly reduced from seasonal highs, some parishioners are planning to fly down to Boca Grande for the occasion ... including members of Vestry, and old friends. A bagpiper, Gary Reinstrom from Sarasota, will add to the festivities.

Assisting Fr. Heydt will be the new rector-elect, the Rev. Michelle Robertshaw, and retired priest Fr. Vincent Scotto. Fr. Scotto will have pastoral oversight during the month of August while the new rector is settling into the Rectory, adjacent to the church on Gilchrist Avenue. She assumes her official duties September 1st.

A reception in the adjoining Chapter House is being organized by Lolo Weir, chair of hospitality, immediately following the service.

Everyone is invited to bid a fond farewell to the retiring rector, Read, give a warm welcome to the incoming rector, Michelle and to greet the interim, Vince.

During Fr. Heydt’s time (2005-2012), St. Andrew’s grew to parish status (from mission) and successfully completed a major renovation of the church campus. He represented the 16th priest-in-charge to serve St. Andrew’s in a century.
