The students heading to the Kindergarten class weren’t the only new faces at The Island School this year.

Head of School Jean Thompson and Science, Math and Technology teacher Heather Crosser were also enjoying their first day alongside the students.

Of course, Thompson and Crosser have been hard at work over the last few weeks preparing for the big day, but there is something about watching the children you will be sheparding through the next few months cross the threshold as students.

“I’ve been here since bright and early,” laughed Thompson, as she snapped pictures and greeted each new student by name.

Crosser was already announcing the first assignment of the school year as her students were finding their seats.

“The first thing you do today, and every day, is read one of the math books,” she explained to the listening students.

Parents checked to make sure that paperwork was signed, watched as their children put their bags into their lockers and their lunches into the cooler and grabbed one last hug before they watched their children walk into the classrooms of The Island School.
