BY MARCY SHORTUSE - One of Boca Grande’s oldest children’s programs, the Munchkins pre-school, will begin fall classes next Tuesday with a new but very familiar face at the helm. Laquata Meade has stepped down as teacher, and Angela Colosimo will take her place.

Colosimo is currently the youth programs director for Friends. She administers the after-school program, and also works with the summer camp program for kids at the Boca Grande Community Center. Now she will add teaching the Munchkins to that list.

According to Friends board member Pat Chapman, Meade contacted the Friends last week and told them she wouldn’t be returning. Her plan is to spend time with family in Kentucky, a goal she has been working toward for several years.

“We were shocked to hear that Laquata wouldn’t be returning, and we immediately called the parents of the children who were signed up,” Chapman said. “They were very supportive. We wish Laquata well with her future plans, and hope this works out for the best for her. We will be closely talking with parents to make sure that everyone is kept up to date.”
