In a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on July 30 Steve Boutelle, Lee County Operations Manager for the Natural Resources Division requested assistance to repair damages to the Gasparilla segment of the Lee County Shore Protection Project.
The letter says, “designed with a 20-foot berm at an elevation of five feet or more above the Mean Low Water line, construction was completed in April, 2007 with a design life of seven years. Tropical Storm Debby caused serious impacts to the central portion of the project.”
