
STAFF REPORT - Orion Marine Construction, the company building the two new fixed bridges on the causeway, received a very important award at a luncheon held at their Boca Grande construction site on Friday, Sept. 14
The award was presented by Mike Pearson, President and CEO of Orion Marine Group.
The Atlantic and Caribbean Marine Construction Operations won the safety award, in recognition of outstanding safety performance.
“At Orion Marine, we strive for excellence in everything that we do,” said JP Donoghue, the project manager in charge of the Orion Marine Group’s island project. “We are providing the Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority and the residents of Boca Grande a product of the highest quality while emphasizing safety at all cost for both the traveling public and our workers.”
Orion Marine Construction won the award for “No Lost Time Injuries for 650,000 Manhours – August 2011 to July 2012.”
Orion's impressive record of safety goes back to when the division was Meisener Marine, and was one of the factors mentioned at the Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority meeting, where the project contract was awarded to the company.
