Back on the island and looking for something to stimulate you before the holidays? The Boca Grande Art Alliance has begun their 2012-2013 classes and they are ready to hear from you.

Two Mondays, Nov. 12 and 19, remain in a class called “What It’s All About ... Secrets of the Obedient Brush.” It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on those days.

The objective of this class is to train your brush to obey your creative desires. Learn how to structure, compose and best choose your medium and subject matter to create oil paintings that make your experiences come to life. Whether abstract, representational, or personally expressive – in any medium – discover that your command of technique is what takes the artist along a satisfying journey of creative growth.

Whatever your level, instructor  Maggie McClellan will guide you on the way.

The cost is $275, $300 for non-members. It is for all levels and all media, be it watercolor or gouache, oil or acrylic.

The popular Sailors’ Valentine class will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 12 and 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The fee is $200.

The rate for the classes is $200.

Legend has it that this traditional, intricate mosaic of shells, stones, shark’s teeth and other beach treasures originated in the Barbados Islands. They were made as gifts for those loved ones returning from sea and have become a popular art form.

Other Sailors’ Valentines classes will meet in March and there will be two classes for kids, grandkids, parents and grandparents during Spring Break.

No previous art experience is needed to take this class.

On Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. you can participate in a beginners’ beading class focusing on the spiral necklace. This class is for those who have never beaded before.

Learn how to bead gems, glass and crystal beads into elegant jewelry. Although it looks difficult, instructor Sharon Weston will show you how easy it can be to finish a whole necklace in one class.

More beading classes meet January through March.

The fee is $60 plus materials.
