Capt. Marian and Nemo

BY LIZA STROUT - Lauren Bush-Lauren, Tavi Gevinson, Senator Kristen Gillibrand and Capt. Marian Schneider. What does the owner of Grande Tours Kayak and Paddleboard Center have in common with a global nutrition advocate, a fashion blogger and a senator from New York?

Schneider has been chosen to be featured in a joint venture between PBS and A.O.L. called, “Makers: The Women Who Make America,” a documentary series about women who have had a major impact in various fields across the country. She is being recognized for her extensive work in protecting and preserving the environment of southwest Florida.

“This means a lot to me,” said Schneider. “It’s one of the highest honors I’ve ever received. I am incredibly humbled, and it came at the perfect time, since this is my 25th year with Grande Tours.”

Schneider’s story was filmed in late July of 2012, after she was selected to represent the southwest Florida area in the series.

You can see segments that have already aired at makers.com, and Schneider's segment will air on WGCU-TV in early February.
