
Island families and organizations are busy, busy, busy getting ready for the 2013 bike parade to be held this Saturday, March 16, along the bike path in Boca Grande.
This year’s theme, “Makin’ Waves,” is sure to elicit some interesting entries. The parade is sponsored by Lee County Parks and Recreation and the Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center.
If you haven’t already signed up to enter the parade, you can sign up Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of 5th Street and E. Railroad Avenue. Line-up begins at 9:50 a.m. and the parade begins at 10:30 a.m.
The Boca Grande Woman’s Club spring fair will follow the parade. Games, face painting, treats and more can be found there. It will begin when the bike parade ends, and will be held on the grounds of the Boca Grande Community Center.
The Johann Fust Community Library and the Boca Grande Woman’s Club will be combining their book sales on Saturday morning while the parade and fair are going on. The sale will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., and will be held in the Woman’s Club Room at the Community Center.

The scheduled performance by the U.S. Army Chorus Vocal Quartet concert on Sunday, March 17 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church has been cancelled due to the sequestration.
The Barrier Island Parks Society Kids’ Explorer Club presentation on “The Fresnel Lens and it’s Amazing Light,” which was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse, has been postponed until Saturday, April 20. Call 964-0060 for more information.
This weekend, Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17, the annual Placida Seafood Festival will be held just off-island on the grounds of The Fishery. Call (941) 697-1700 for more information.
On Sunday, March 17 the Hudson’s Grocery Relay for Life team will hold a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the park next to the store. View More images >>
On Monday, March 18 “Marjorie & Marjory” will be presented by the Boca Grande Historical Society. The lecture will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The lecture focuses on the lives of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Marjory Stoneman Douglas, two influential Florida authors.
There will also be a Relay for Life party on Monday, March 18 at the Woman’s Club Room at the Boca Grande Community Center at 5:30 p.m. Register your team then or catch up on the latest plans for the event.
