The Boca Grande Community Center had its 28th Annual Bike Path Parade last Saturday, March 16, which turned out to be a great event for island residents and visitors. There were 37 entries in the event and many spectators.

Joe Wier, Supervisor for Lee County Parks & Recreation and organizer of the Bike Path Parade, stated this event would not be possible without the support of The Gasparilla Conservation and Improvement Association, The Boca Grande Woman’s Club, Friends of Boca Grande Community Center and Lee County Parks & Recreation.

Thanks to the Boca Grande Fire Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department and all of the volunteers who made this event safe and enjoyable for the community. Special thanks also go to Lolo Weir, Larry Warner, Misty Nichols, John Mendez and Bill Winterer who did a fabulous job judging the event.

The 2013 Bike Path Parade results include:

• Best Group winner was the Jenkins family
• Best Business category winner was Grande Aire
• Best Non-Profit entry was Light House UMC
• Best Childrens entry was Rocco & Sophia
• Most Original entry was by the Allgyer Family
• Best Presentation of a Theme was “The Pilot Wave”
• Best of Show went to The Island School

Honorable Mentions were given to the Mote Marine float, Martha Diebold’s float, the “Read Aloud” float and to the Pink Pony.
