Easter week will begin on the island on Good Friday, with the annual Way of the Cross. It will begin at noon at the Our Lady of Mercy Church, and all island churches will participate.
Everyone is welcome to participate in “Via Dolorosa,” or “The Way of Sorrows,” which represents the 14 Stations of the Cross.
At Our Lady of Mercy, Holy Thursday, March 28, will honor the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 5 p.m. on Good Friday, Liturgy will be at 3 p.m. On Holy Saturday, March 30, Solemn Easter Vigil will be at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, March 31, masses will be held at 8, 9, 10 and 11 a.m.
At the Lighthouse United Methodist Church, Maundy Thursday will begin with prayer and healing at 7 p.m., and will continue on at 7:30 p.m. with Holy Communion Service. At the ecumenical sunrise service (7 a.m.) the Methodist Church will bring special music by the Boca Grande Chorale, as well as Artom Popkov and the Slavic Methodist Praise Team. A solo will also be performed by Shere Fullum. Easter services at the church will be at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. There will also be a special children’s service and egg hunt at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
At the First Baptist Church, services will be held at regular hours on Easter Sunday, at 10 a.m.
At St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, March 24 the Liturgy of the Palms and the reading of The Passion will be held at 8 and 10:30 a.m. On Monday, March 25 through Wednesday, March 27 therewill be Evening Prayer at 5 p.m. On Maundy Thursday, March 28 there will be Holy Eucharist, foot washing, and stripping of the altar at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, March 29 St. Andrew’s will have Holy Eucharist from the Reserve Sacrament at 1:15 p.m. Easter Vigil will be at 8 p.m. on Holy Saturday, March 30, and Holy Eucharist will be performed at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
The Ecumenical Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. at Gasparilla Pass (the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse).
The island’s annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by Lee County Parks & Recreation and the Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center, will be held at 10 a.m. at the Community Center.
Children should arrive by 9:45 a.m. to insure a good place in the line-up.
Photos with the Easter Bunny will also be an option. Bring your own camera.
