The Friends of Boca Grande Community Center recently announced at the final show of the 2013 “All That Jazz” program that season tickets are now for sale for the 2014 season.
All That Jazz concerts are held at the Crowninshield Community House in an atmosphere transformed into a cabaret-like nightclub. Patrons are asked to bring their own refreshments – alcoholic beverages are permitted! Friends supplies table snacks, cups and cocktail napkins. Dress is nightclub casual.
While they are called season tickets, patrons will not actually receive a ticket. Friends will keep a reservation list at the office and all seats are assigned. Season tickets are non-refundable, but are transferable. Season tickets cost $100 for four shows.
The 2014 Season of All That Jazz will offer an early show at 5 p.m. or a late show at 8 p.m.
On January 6, 2014, the Bud Leeds Ensemble will be featured. Bud Leeds and his pick-up group of Dixieland players will be joined by Jonathan Russell, who is an exciting 17-year-old jazz violinist who bridges generational and cultural gaps with improvised jazz. In addition to performing across the country on jazz violin, Jonathan has performed off-Broadway and has contributed additional music credits for major-release and independent films.
On February 3, 2014 Friends will host Cyrille Aimee.
The Washington Post celebrates her “. . . voice like fine whiskey – oaky and smooth, with a hint of smokiness …”
She recently won first place in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and has just released her fifth album, “Cyrille Aimee & The Surreal Band ‘Live at Birdland.’”
On March 3, 2014 Kevin Mahogany will sing. With 11 CDs as a leader, and quite a few as a sideman, Kevin has proved to be the quintessential jazz vocalist.
Newsweek describes him as “the standout jazz vocalist of his generation.”
New Yorker magazine writer Whitney Balliet writes, “There is little Mahogany cannot do.”
Says the L.A. Times, “Mahogany is one of the first truly gifted male vocalists to emerge in years.”
On April 7, 2014 Friends will feature Dick Hyman. Throughout a busy musical career that got underway in the early ’50s, Dick Hyman has functioned as pianist, organist, arranger, music director, and composer. His versatility in all of these areas has resulted in film scores, orchestral compositions, concert appearances and well over 100 albums recorded under his own name.
There is also an opportunity to be a show sponsor and receive preferred seating!
All That Jazz sponsors provide the needed capital to underwrite the cost of this wonderful jazz talent that we are bringing to The Crowninshield on Monday nights. Without sponsors, Friends wouldn’t be able to make All That Jazz happen.
Sponsors receive preferred table seating and recognition at the All That Jazz concerts and in the Friends annual report as a contributing member of the organization. Sponsorships are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Sponsorship of one evening costs $200.
