“There are not enough words to express this board’s gratitude to our Finance Chairman Bill Holmberg and his committee for the countless hours they put forth to make this happen,” said board Chairman David Hayes. “Our Interim Executive Director Kathy (Banson-Verrico) and her staff worked with Bill to make sure he has all of the necessary information needed to bring this important issue to completion.”
The board also voted to approve the 100 percent complete designs for the swing bridge. The final cost estimate is $20.9 million, within one percent of the estimate with the 90 percent plans.
Chairman Hayes clarified the nature of the four-foot shoulders that are included in the plans for the fixed bridges. The shoulders are not designated bike paths, simply the FDOT mandated shoulder.
JP Donoghue of Orion gave an update on the fixed bridge project, with the surprising news that the new center bridge should be open to regular traffic in late July.
The board also voted to begin the search for a permanent director. Resumes will be accepted until the end of June, and a final decision will be made at the quarterly board meeting on Wednesday, July 24, 10 a.m. at the GIBA Administration Building.
