BY MARCY SHORTUSE - The room may have been filled to overflowing at the Wednesday, May 7 Boca Grande Historic Preservation Board meeting to discuss parking on Gilchrist Avenue, but the controversy level stayed to a minimum.

The Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament is upon us once again.

The Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority has announced that the swing bridge will be closed for emergency repairs in the early morning hours of Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21.

On both days, the bridge will be closed to boat traffic from midnight to 6 a.m. and to vehicular traffic from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.

The Island School kids have been maximizing the time during the last couple of weeks of school, and they’ve been busy, busy, busy.

Above, Miss Maya the dog and her human, Susan Johnson, came to read with the kids. Below, nine little ones attended kindergarten orientation day and sat down with Mrs. Judy Still and Mrs. Melissa Elsberry to get a feel for the classrooms they will be in when fall comes.
