BY MARCY SHORTUSE - The annual event that epicurean islanders have been waiting for is upon us. The Taste of Boca Grande will be held on Monday, Feb. 4 at the Boca Bay Pass Club. It will be another visceral experience, with a wonderous menu from some of the very best restaurants to be had in Southwest Florida.
BY NIKKI HEIMANN - It’s been dubbed the Mystery of the Tarpon. For the past few weeks many islanders have noticed that something fishy is going on at the post office. The face of our famous local fish has conspicuously appeared on the floor overnight with no explanation. Local rumor about the beautifully spraypainted tarpon leaves everyone wondering if it was the work of some late night graffiti artist, or if it was intentional art.
Elvis played to a packed house on Wednesday, Jan. 16 thanks to the Royal Palm Players bringing him to the island. Also known as Dwight Icenhower, the “King of the World,” he wowed the crowd with Elvis Presley hits. He will be performing on February 8, 9 and 10 at Roberts Arena in Sarasota as well. Photo by Dusty

BY MARCY SHORTUSE - When season comes, the dogs come out. They’re in golf carts, they’re tied to the bench at Hudson’s, walking down the street, running on the soccer field and the beach. The vast number of dogs that live on Gasparilla Island may lead some to believe there are more canine residents than humans. On March 23, many dogs (and their humans) will congregate at the Boca Grande Community Center at 10 a.m. to find out who is the best of the best ... and it can be ruff competition.
