BY MELISSA LATERZA - Rev. Michelle Robertshaw, rector for St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, grew up surrounded by cow pastures and orange groves in the northern part of Tampa.
“We grew up on a lake with orange groves, lots of pastures and freedom,” Michelle recalled. “All the neighbors on the street knew each other and looked out for the kids. If you did something wrong, your parents would know before you got home. It was a wonderful, safe place to grow up and experience life.”
Last week the kids at The Island School got a special treat – a visit from Jeff Rodgers, an astronomer with Bishop Planetarium. He and Samantha Sprague, school programs manager for Bishop, spoke with the kids about how the solar system works and what they see in the night sky. Rodgers came to the island courtesy of the Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center.
