Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers helped to release several manatees back into the wild on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at The Innlet boat ramp just off 13th Street. Observers said the smallest manatee was just two to three years old.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Boca Grande Halloween Carnival, sponsored by Lee County Parks and Recreation and the Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Boca Grande Community Center.
BY DENISE SEARLE - The first of Coach DJ Keisling’s new Boca Bunch adventures was a huge hit with the kids! On Saturday, Oct. 19, we filled up a 15-seat passenger van with 12 kids, ages 11 to 14, and three adults and headed to Busch Gardens in Tampa to attend the annual Howl-O-Scream event.
They’re coming to get you, Barbara. Dogs, that is, and they’re not actually coming to get anyone. Just treats. But it is a Halloween party (or paw-ty as the case may be), so a quote from Night of the Living Dead isn’t totally out of line.
The whole clan from the Boca Grande Child Care Center took their annual pilgrimage to the local fire station last week, and left there as a group of happy, fire-safety-enlightened BGCCC kids. At right, Harry Duke tries out his own fire hat.
