BY JACK SHORT - The Boca Grande Caregivers Group presented their monthly discussion Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at the Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center. This month’s topic was an overview of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, appropriately held on the day the act went into effect and on which the insurance exchange in Florida went live.

BY JACK SHORT - Some good news and some bad news for the Sarasota and Charlotte county Special Olympics Stand Up Paddling team. They’re going to the Stand Up Paddle Invitational in Key West this Sunday, but next year’s race will be another hill to climb – or maybe a wave to catch.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies got a few pointers recently when Sgt. Paul Cummins and Sgt. Dave Drum came up from Fort Myers to demonstrate to our deputies some of the third phase of deputy training, called “Active shooter response.”
