To the Editor:
Construction of the fixed bridges is progressing nicely. The new center bridge opened to traffic on August 1, 2013, and the view is spectacular. Please remember – the entire area still remains a construction zone which means the speed limit in the area remains at 15 mph.
After construction is complete the speed limit on the causeway will be 35 mph. Until that time, please slow down when driving across the causeway and obey all posted speed limit signs.
We have had a few close calls and we must keep the area safe for all causeway contractor staff. The Charlotte County Sheriff has been contacted and will be patrolling the causeway and writing tickets to speeders along the causeway.
We are all pleased with the new fixed bridges and the removal of the speed bumps. If the speed limits are not obeyed, the GIBA Board of Supervisors may have to revisit installing the speed bumps along the causeway once again.
Please, slow down!
Respectfully,Kathy VerricoGIBA Executive Director
