To the Editor:
The Century-Link tower on the corner of E. Railroad and 4th St. has been a source of, and a nuisance, to the tower “neighborhood” for many years. Over 5!! The bird poop problem is annoying, unsanitary and it is a source of pathogenic bacteria. Century-Link is fully aware of the problem. They state they are trying hard to keep the birds from alighting on the tower. Commissioner John Manning is aware of this problem. He has been an ally in prodding Century-Link to remedy.
The “neighborhood” consists of businesses that cringe when we get plastered with poop on our cars, our sidewalk, our furniture etc.
Many devices have been tried to chase birds. One, called a whirly gig, did work. It demands care that Century-Link didn’t want to do.
There is now a device on the tower that is very experimental. It vibrates and makes a blasting sound. Installed on tower early spring of this year, that device is annoying some people.Bev and I have had 2 or 3 calls complaining about the “blast” sound.
Please understand, the tower and the blast device belongs to Century-Link. Don’t call us to complain. We are all tired of cleaning poop. Suddenly you are annoyed by the blast device.
Please direct your complaint to Brian Hamman, manager market development, Century Link, Ft. Myers.Phone: 239-335-8330Email: firstname.lastname@example.orgYou have had a few months of “blast” sound, we have had years of poop and clean up!!
