Stanley Aaronson Friedman, husband, gentleman, and scholar died on October 27, 2011 at his home in Lacey, Wash. surrounded by his wife, Sydell, and daughters, Rachel Friedman of Olympia, Wash., Suzi Ambar-Worrell of Nashville, Tenn. and Carol Thaler, of Tucson, Ariz. He was 91.
Stanley and wife Sydell first came to Boca Grande in 1981, wintering there until 1989 when they built their permanent home on 45th Street. In 2002, they moved to the state of Washington where they remained until the present.
Many of Boca Grande’s past and current residents credit the Friedmans for welcoming them to the island by introducing them to other residents and for arranging tennis games at the nascent Boca Grande Club. They were generous with their invitations and created a warm, informal atmosphere in their home – made lively with interesting discussions over good food.
Many will remember seeing Stanley, sporting a deep tan, wearing his Yale cap while playing tennis or riding his bicycle on the path.
The Friedmans celebrated 70 years of marriage. Along with his wife and three daughters, Stanley is survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Stanley’s kind, loving presence and his intelligent points of view and will be missed by his wife, family and friends.
Remembrances may be sent to Mrs. Stanley Friedman; 4207 Chambers Lake Dr. SE; Lacey WA 98503.
