Margaret (“Peggy”) Twomey Jones, of Boca Grande and Chatham, Mass., passed away on July 7, 2012 of cancer at her home in Chatham, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, W. Richard (Dick) Jones; her children, Jane Elizabeth Jones (Stan Cygelman) of Winchester, Mass., Susan Patricia Jones of East Harwich, Mass., and Richard Jones (Anne) of Louisville, Ky.; her grandchildren, Kate, Alex and Charlie Rush, Jackie Cygelman, and Rye and Henry Jones; her sisters, Joan Ivers (Jack) of Chappaqua, N.Y., Eileen Twomey of Chatham, Mass.; and her brother, Michael Twomey (Maria) of Boise, Idaho; as well as four nieces, two nephews and numerous cousins.

She was the beloved daughter of John and Nellie Twomey. Peggy was born in County Kerry, Ireland on March 3, 1929 and moved to the United States when she was 6 years old, spending her childhood in Reading and Plum Island, Mass. She and Dick raised their family in Youngstown, Ohio, where Peggy was actively involved in civic affairs. She served as president of the Boardman High School PTA, and was a chair for both the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and Youngstown chapter of the Easter Seal Society.

Peggy loved skiing, tennis, books, bridge and gardening. She was a gregarious, compassionate and straight-talking extrovert, who amassed a large and lasting group of friends from every location where she resided. She will be forever remembered and missed for her warmth, courage, dignity and optimism, which she displayed throughout her entire life.

A memorial Mass will be held on July 28 at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s memory to Tidewell Hospice Philanthropy Department, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238, the Youngstown Boys and Girls Club, 2105 Oak Hill Ave, Youngstown, OH 44507, or to the charity of one’s choice.
