Read more...BY MARCY SHORTUSE - Cemeteries mean different things to different people. For some it is a dreary place, for some they are downright creepy. For others, though, they are places of rest and peace, a place to honor and respect family members and friends who have passed.

Lemon Bay Cemetery, also known as the “humpback cemetery,” houses some of the most unique graves in the area. Names like Goff, Joiner and Keaser grace the marble memorials, names that made Englewood what it is today. Many from Boca Grande are buried there as well. Well-loved and cared for at one time, life got in the way for the family members and friends of the dead, and the graves fell into disrepair.Read more...

Read more...This was simply too adorable not to put in the paper. Michelle Robertshaw, the new rector at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, has two new babies. These squirrel children fell from a tree near the church and Michelle has been nursing them through their trying times. Hey, if you have to fall out of a tree St. Andrew’s is the place to do it.

Editorial: You can’t fix stupid, but you can vote it out

 

BY MARCY SHORTUSE - Lately it seems like politics has turned everyone against each other. From Facebook and television rants from both sides of the presidential debate right down to Charlotte and Lee County primaries … if someone’s goal in the upper hierarchy is to rip us asunder, they are succeeding.

There have been two examples of that in our area lately, just in local government. Examples that make me want to pound my head into the nearest wall, wondering just what has happened to taking an appointed or elected position seriously.
