Nancy Fry Sholley, an enthusiastic member of the Boca Grande community since 1984, died on September 21 surrounded by her loving family.

BY MARCY SHORTUSE - Capt. Tom McLaughlin has an affinity for 50-year-old scaly females with big, bulging eyes. He fights daily for their right to live, as a matter of fact. As one of the founders of Save the Tarpon, he feels very strongly about them.

Samuel McClay Yonce, a former Greenwich, Conn. resident, died Sept. 18 in Greenwich due to complications from surgery. He was 81.

STAFF REPORT - Orion Marine Construction, the company building the two new fixed bridges on the causeway, received a very important award at a luncheon held at their Boca Grande construction site on Friday, Sept. 14

The award was presented by Mike Pearson, President and CEO of Orion Marine Group.

Around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 this poor palm tree had a traumatic run-in with a Gulf to Bay truck. The tree, which stands at 3rd St. and Gilchrist Avenue., will never be the same after its decapitation.

“Warn when passing” is now prominently stenciled on the GICIA’s Bike Path at crucial intervals, approximately every 200 yards. The project was completed on Saturday, Sept. 22, the work of Liam Hugger of Boca Grande (he is the grandson of Rick and Karen Hugger). Liam was assisted by volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 198 of Rotonda.
