BY LIZA STROUT - Have you ever wanted to explore the universe? To find out exactly what is going on with the Large Hadron Collider, and why it matters anyway?
2012 was a breakthrough year in the exploration and understanding of our universe. Jeff Rodgers of the Bishop Planetarium will be here on Friday, January 11, at 3 p.m., at the Boca Grande Community Center to discuss some of the discoveries of the last year, answer questions and let us know what we have to look forward to in the coming years.
The Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center are continuing to solicit articles, anecdotes and short “bytes” regarding the Civil War which have been passed down by island families during the last 150 years.
“Civil War Memories,” the commemorative book featuring articles submitted by residents and families of residents of Boca Grande, has grown to more than 60 pages from 18 participants.
On Wednesday, Jan. 17 a presentation by the Lemon Bay Conservancy will be held at the Boca Grande Community Center auditorium at 3 p.m.
The discussion will focus on the Conservancy’s four-month juvenile tarpon research project update at Wildflower Preserve. The program started in September of 2012.

The Alzheimer’s Association “Memory Mobile” will be at the Boca Grande Health Clinic Annex parking lot on Friday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Information on Alzheimer’s disease, referrals to community resources, care consults, memory screenings and Alzheimer’s care-giving training will be available. All services are free.

A celebration of life will be held for J. Edward Seale on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. at the 7th Street Boathouse.
