FWC break-away jig study refuted by originating scientist Friday, 17 May 2013 10:06   BY MARCY SHORTUSE - In the summer of 2004 Dr. Justin Grubich picked up the phone to take a call from a woman who said she was with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The woman, Kathy Guindon, talked with Justin for about 30 minutes foul-hooking tarpon, and he was asked to provide expert witness testimony on how tarpon feed. Read more...Last Saturday, Beacon writers Liza Strout and Jack Short were treated to a kayak ecotour by Barrier Island Parks Society. The trip started at Don Pedro landbase, continued on Don Pedro Island, along the beach and through a mangrove tunnel into a lagoon.

Read more...BY MARCY SHORTUSE - When Jack Short moved from Pennsylvania to Florida as a pre-teen, it took him some time to make the adjustment. After all, the towering trees and welcoming woods of the Keystone State are dramatically different than the saw palmettos and scrub brush here, and he was a huge fan of exploring the outdoors.

It took our new writer here at the Boca Beacon about 10 years to come to the realization that here in Florida, it’s not necessarily the woods you want to explore ... it’s the water.
